Manufacturing Site Selection in China A Photo Album The key to successful Manufacturing Site Selection in China is understanding China's Economic Development Zones (EDZs). Silk Road Communications (SRC) has surveyed more than thirty-five Economic Development Zones (EDZs) in China. EDZs are large swathes of land set aside by National, Provincial and Local authorities for the express purpose of attracting and cultivating foreign companies. The infrastructure, tax benefits and administrative support of the areas is more highly developed than in other parts of China. EDZs are the easiest locations for foreign companies to establish their joint ventures and wholly-owned businesses. EDZs make it much easier than in the past to sell foreign products to the domestic China market or to export goods to other countries. SRC has visited Zones clustered in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, as well as in Tianjin and Shandong Province in the North and the mega-city Chongqing in Central China. It is not possible to perform manufacturing site selection in China on one's own. Hence, Silk Road Communications frequently meets with government officials at the State, Provincial, City and County levels; with Communist Party officers, Western managers and Chinese entrepreneurs. They are all extraordinarily helpful in assisting our efforts to learn about the Zones so we may share the information with Western companies. We are most grateful to them for their hard work in hosting us and in answering all our questions.
